U.S. Manufacturing is Making a Comeback

U.S. Manufacturing is Making a Comeback

U.S. MANUFACTURING IS MAKING A COMEBACK
Poll results from Next Generation Manufacturing event indicate manufacturers are experiencing a renaissance.

ATLANTA -(November 4, 2011)- Results of a survey conducted during the inauguralNext Generation Manufacturing event, held here on October 18th, suggest that the U.S. is experiencing the first stage of a manufacturing renaissance.

Innovation is a high priority, technology investments are widespread, and more manufacturing jobs are being created in the U.S.

Survey results show that innovation is important to companies that attended the event.  More than 50 percent of respondents to the first question said that innovation is one of their company’s top three priorities for 2012.

During 2008 through 2011, including the height of the recession, companies were developing new products and establishing new processes, according to survey results.

Seventy-five percent of those surveyed indicated that their company has been developing new products over the past three years.  And…

The high percentage of respondents indicating they are innovating through the development of new processes shows that companies are cleaning house and getting rid of the inefficiencies and the time waste that exists, allowing them to be more streamlined and profitable.

New efficiencies and better processes are being made possible through the introduction of more technology into the manufacturing environment.  The Next Generation Manufacturing survey found that:

High levels of agreement in this category indicate that innovation is going to continue and companies will make investments in 2012 that will propel them into 2013 and beyond.

During his speech Michael Joyce, senior vice president of operations and program management at Lockheed Martin, said that there is more technology in one wing of the new F-35 fighter aircraft than in a full-size car.

Survey results clearly indicate that innovation starts at the top of each organization. Respondents stated that innovation is being driven from the CEO’s office, rather than the plant floor, indicating that it is critical that CEO’s participate in the innovation within their companies.

One of the biggest questions surrounding manufacturing over the past few decades has been around jobs being shipped overseas, or off-shored.  The Next Generation Manufacturing survey found that the tides are turning and more manufacturing jobs coming to and staying in the U.S.

Sixty-five percent of survey respondents agreed that their company expects to add to their current staff in Georgia during 2012.  While….

“The results of this survey are a strong indicator that manufacturing is making a comeback in the U.S.,” said Richard Kopelman, partner at Habif, Arogeti & Wynne.  “To see that so many companies are planning to hire and innovate is inspiring and a positive indication as we continue to recover from the recent recession.”

The survey was written, conducted and analyzed by a third-party firm and it was fielded during the plenary session of the event.  Respondents were senior level executives of manufacturing companies operating in Georgia.  206 manufacturing executives had the opportunity to take the electronic survey.

The Next Generation Manufacturing event, held at Georgia Tech Research Institute, was a huge success, with nearly 250 registrants in attendance.  The event brought together Georgia’s manufacturers and local manufacturing industry resources, like Quickstart, to promote growth in manufacturing.  Attendees were from throughout Georgia.

Get Ready for Renewables! A Primer on the Inflation Reduction Act for Manufacturing Companies

April 12, 2023 @ 12:00 pm 1:00 pm EDT

Ready or not, the renewable energy revolution is here! The average cost of installing solar dropped 350% in a decade. Every sector of the economy – from manufacturing to transportation to data — is electrifying, driving new peaks in electricity demand, straining a stretched electrical grid and creating new opportunities for smaller systems that serve an individual customer’s unique energy needs. Extreme weather events bring resiliency and continuity of energy service to the top of our minds. Customers increasingly demand a greener footprint. And then 2022’s Inflation Reduction Act overhauled the clean energy tax credit, exploding the number of technologies and organizations that can generate this powerful incentive.

This web presentation will lay out a simple approach to going renewable and help you understand some of the many financing options available, including and especially the IRA’s clean energy tax credit provisions, so you’re prepared to take full advantage of this powerful incentive. We’ll also leave plenty of time for Q&A.

Next Generation Manufacturing event registrations open to manufacturing executives, directors and senior managers of manufacturing companies.

“What Happens When the Chain Wrecks?”

May 19, 2021 @ 9:30 am 10:30 am EDT

“Chain Wrecks” is a fast-paced and highly valuable webinar for any company buying or selling things in the global supply chain.

It provides cautionary tales of what happens when sales do not go as planned. Although buyers and sellers of goods and services seek to profit from each transaction, every sale also brings risks.
Who is exposed to losses when things go wrong, such as when a party fails to perform as promised or when a product is defective, must be recalled, or infringes intellection property rights?
If the parties do not have a clear, written agreement covering such risks, what terms control?
How may parties limit their commercial and litigation risks, while maximizing opportunities for recovery from the defaulting buyer or seller?

Using lively and entertaining stories of real-world “chain wrecks” (including tales from the pandemic), the presenters bring to life Article 2 of the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) and other applicable laws in a way that will engage and inform.
Viewers will leave with a new or refreshed understanding of the legal framework governing contract formation, default terms, express and implied warranties, consequences of breach, indemnification, and damages limitations.

Robert Brunson, Partner, Nelson Mullins
Kathleen Mellon, Associate, Nelson Mullins

Executives from Lockheed Martin, Shaw Industries, TOTO USA and Kia Motors share the speaker’s platform to discuss innovation

ATLANTA (September 20, 2011) – The inaugural Next Generation Manufacturing event, taking place October 18, 2011, is set to showcase the manufacturing renaissance that the U.S. is poised to experience, as more manufacturers pioneer new products and processes and more jobs are staying in America or being brought back. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet, hear from and interact with senior executives from world-leading manufacturers, discussing top innovation methods and successes.

William L. Strang, Senior Vice President of Operations TOTO, and one of the notable speakers at the Next Generation Manufacturing event, says: “Innovation has been the hallmark of our product and process evolution over the past 10 years. TOTO uses lifecycle assessment as a very important methodology to establish the metrics for continuous improvement and reduction in cost. We have been able to blend the best attributes of what Georgia has to offer with the product and process innovations to allow us to be sustainable and competitive in today’s market.”

“The type of innovation that Mr. Strang mentions is the genesis of Next Generation Manufacturing, fueling a renaissance in the U.S. today,” says Richard Kopelman, visionary behind the event and partner at Atlanta-based accounting and business advisory firm Habif, Arogeti & Wynne. “Recent news reports show that major manufacturing brands, like Wham-O, NCR, and Ford Motors can better innovate and service their customers by manufacturing in the U.S. as opposed to off-shoring. There’s a clear correlation between innovation and job growth.”

A survey recently released by Reuters and MFG.com shows that 40% of North American manufacturers with off-shored production are investigating bringing that work back to the U.S. by 2012. This is further evidence supporting a U.S. manufacturing renaissance.

The Oct. 18 event, to be hosted at the Georgia Tech Research Institute Conference Center (GTRI), will feature talks by prominent manufacturing business leaders. Speakers include:

Georgia Tech also will provide a rare opportunity to tour three of its premier research centers: the Manufacturing Research Center (MaRC), the Institute of Paper Science and Technology (IPST), and the Food Processing Technology Division Center.
